Last Day at Disney: Downtown Disney

Last Day at Disney: Downtown Disney

Welcome to the next stop on Magical Blogorail Green. Today we are discussing the best ways to end a Disney vacation.

Planning out your days of your Disney vacation can be challenging and exciting. You’ll know almost immediately what you will want to do as soon as you get there, but what do you do on your last day? Depending on whether you are flying or driving, will give you an idea of how much time you will have on your last day. If you will be leaving sometime in the afternoon or late evening, a great place to enjoy your last day of your Disney vacation would be at Downtown Disney!

Even the best vacations can be stressful and a Disney vacation can be overwhelming. But after a long week of riding rides, seeing parades and singing along with shows, I’m usually pretty exhausted. Here are 5 reasons as to why Downtown Disney makes a great last day option.

Pick up last minute souvenirs-Did you forget to pick up a souvenir shirt for niece? Didn’t have time to go back for that Dooney & Burke purse you saw at Magic Kingdom? No Problem! Downtown Disney has the largest Disney character merchandise store called World of Disney. It has all the souvenirs and gifts you could possibly want. If you can’t find a specific gift that you saw somewhere else, just ask a cast member and they can track it down and ship it to your home! Along with Disney merchandise, there are a ton more stores such as Once Upon a Toy, Marketplace Co-op and Basin, that have unique gifts for you or anyone else.

Marketplace Co-op

Eating lunch-Downtown Disney has my favorite place to eat lunch which is Earl of Sandwich. Not only are their prices very reasonable, their sandwiches are delicious! If you’re not in the mood for sandwiches, then there are plenty of other unique places to eat lunch at such as T-Rex, Bongos and Wolfgang Puck express. Or you can grab your favorite Starbucks drink from the two new Starbucks there.

Using up leftover snack credits-If you are on the Disney Dining plan and you have extra credits, Downtown Disney is a great way to use up those credits so you can get your money’s worth out of your trip. Goofy’s Candy Company is a great way to get rid of extra snack credits. You can pick of prepackaged Disney themed snacks for your trip back or save them for some great souvenirs for friends and family.

Watch a movie or go bowling-Have enough time to watch a movie? Downtown Disney has as AMC 24 Theater that is also a Dine-In Theater. So you can really relax at the end of your trip. Not enough time to see a movie? Then take the family bowling at Splitsville Luxury Lanes.

Saves you money-I know what you’re thinking. How can spending money at Downtown Disney save me money? My logic to it is that I only want to pay for the amount of days that I will be able to spend in the parks for full days. Say you have a package deal for a 5 day trip but you will be leaving in the afternoon on your departure day, then I would make sure I got the 4 day pass. That way I’m not wasting my ticket money on a day I won’t be at the Parks and using the money to spend on whatever at Downtown Disney. And there is nothing better than having some extra money to spend on some Disney goodies!

  1. We used to go to Downtown Disney to load up on Earl of Sandwich sandwiches to eat on the plane, but a case of food poisoning “cured” us of of that… Also, I used to binge shop at the Lego Store and the World of Disney… I even bought extra luggage to fit all the things I bought into it to fly home with!

    1. Oh no! You got food poisoning on the plane. That must have been awful! When I shop at Downtown Disney I usually end up getting more things than I had planned on as well!

  2. Great ideas! We used to always spend our last day at Downtown Disney but we’ve had annual passes for the last few years so we head to a park. I think if I went there now I would definitely head over to Starbucks. And I wouldn’t have thought of bowling but that would great if you had a full day before a flight. 🙂
